It’s never too early to start therapy.
It has been well-understood since the 1980s that children as young as six can experience clinical depression, and children as young as nine can experience anxiety–but some estimates start even sooner.
Even if your child does not have a diagnosed mental illness, therapy may help them recover from changes in eating, sleeping, and mood (sadness, irritability, or loss of pleasure in activities). Children that have undergone a traumatic event (including bullying) have a particular need for mental health counseling.
Why Absolute Advocacy?
Absolute Advocacy understands the unique mental health challenges faced by youth and adolescents. We believe it’s important for young people to access therapy early so that they can have a joyful life sooner rather than later.
We offer an affirming and judgment-free zone. Our services include, but are not limited to:
- Depression, anxiety, and other mental illnesses
- Suicidal ideation
- Self-harm
- Substance use
- Trauma (including bullying and abuse)
- Adjustment disorders
We also offer group and family therapy to help children and their caretakers connect.
The Process
Once you schedule your first appointment on behalf of the young person in your care, you’ll need to fill out some paperwork about their symptoms and family history. We’ll have a first consultation where we talk about their issues, then come up with a plan for getting their life back on track.
Absolute Advocacy accepts Medicaid, and we can work with you and your insurance to see what payment options are available to you. Contact the office for more information on our rates.
We also offer virtual therapy. Please let our office know if you’d like to schedule a virtual therapy appointment.
Locations
We have locations in Charlotte and Concord and offer flexible hours to match your schedule.
Note: In the wake of Mecklenburg County closures due to COVID-19, all our services are currently being offered online-only. Please contact our office for more details, and view our post on how you can protect your mental health in the midst of this crisis.
