Absolute Advocacy is excited and proud to announce the approval of our Drug Education School. It’s a pretty big deal for two reasons. First and foremost, we are officially one of only two agencies in the counties of Mecklenburg and Cabarrus qualified and legally able to offer drug education classes. Second, and certainly not less important, is the fact that Drug Education School can expunge charges from the record of first-time offenders, offering something of incredible value: a second chance.
The Benefit of Drug Education School
Most of us don’t think about second chances. At least, not until we wish we had one, and then we mirror the thoughts of El DeBarge, who said, “I want the world to know that everybody deserves a second chance.”
Drug usage facts in the United States are astounding. According to DrugWarFacts.org, in 2013 alone, some 24.6 million Americans aged 12 or older were illicit drugs users. And that’s just the 24.6 million people we know of; chances are the real number is a lot bigger.
The truth is millions of people, from children to adults, try drugs every day. Some do it because of peer pressure. Other do it because it’s the example they grew up seeing as normal. Even more try a drug because it looks cool, or they’re curious. And then there are the millions of patients who grow addicted to pain medication without even realizing it.
Police officers are at the forefront of the war on drugs, and sometimes they are the first to catch us when we fall. Maybe you’re the teen who smoked pot because your friend dared you. You drove home, were stopped by the police, and now face drug-related charges.
Maybe you made a mistake, the police became involved, and now you’re staring down the barrel of substance charges, feeling like your life – your dreams – are over. It’s the nail in the coffin. You’re done! But are you?
Thanks to Drug Education School (DES), you have a shot at a second chance. If you’ve been charged with misdemeanor drug/paraphernalia or alcohol/tobacco related charges for the first time, our Drug Education Program can get you back on track.
