CBI Classes Are Now Available Online
Did you know a person convicted of shoplifting in North Carolina can spend up to 45 days in jail, be required to pay back the property stolen, pay the property owner’s attorney fees and even be required to pay additional penalties? (N.C. Gen. Stat. §14-72)
Did you know a charge of resisting arrest can be considered obstruction of justice and lead to 60 days in jail, which can result in a Class 2 Misdemeanor on your criminal record? (N.C. Gen. Stat. §14-223)
If you have been arrested for a crime related to theft, shop lifting, or resisting arrest, there is help and an alternative for people charged with first time petty misdemeanors. The state of North Carolina, through the Department of Corrections, has implemented a program called Cognitive Behavioral Intervention (CBI), designed especially for first time offenders who have committed misdemeanor crimes related to trespassing or petty larceny. The goal of the program is to reduce the number of people who serve jail time and to give people charged with certain types of misdemeanors a second chance, provided they complete the necessary court-ordered CBI classes.
Absolute Advocacy is a state-approved provider of CBI classes that meet the court requirements for dismissal of charges for crimes that fall under this state-regulated program.
Our Cognitive Behavioral Intervention program is a state-approved program designed to help you recognize the reasons for your misdemeanor charges and give you a plan to help you make better choices to prevent future charges. The overall goal of the CBI program is not simply to help you avoid jail time, but to give you the tools, resources and support you need in order to avoid the consequences of criminal behavior. Our goal is to support you and give you the tools you need to make better decisions so you can succeed and contribute to society in a positive way.
CBI classes include topics such as social skills, handling peer pressure, problem solving and decision-making. Through each class, you will learn more about yourself as well as how to deal with others.
