ADETS stands for Alcohol Drug Education Traffic School. It’s one of our core services here at Absolute Advocacy. We are proud to be one of the best DWI and substance abuse education providers in North Carolina. Who Benefit from ADETS Classes
North Carolina ADETS programs are designed to help people make the right life choices when facing the use of drugs or abuse of alcohol. The ultimate goal of ADETS is to prevent and reduce the number of accidents, injuries, deaths, and crimes caused by people who use alcohol and drugs.
The program is made for people who don’t have an identified substance use disorder, but they may be at risk of these disorders. ADETS classes are not and cannot be offered by just any company. The program is built around the need for a certified counselor, and classes must be conducted by trained therapists.
For individuals who have lost or seen their driver’s license suspended due to a DWI in North Carolina or drug related charge, ADETS classes are crucial to regaining their driving privileges. The DMV requires a certificate of completion from the ADETS service provider showing the completed DWI assessment and program.
The Scope of North Carolina ADETS Classes
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), our state ranks among the top 10 for alcohol-impaired driving deaths in the United States. ADETS classes are particularly important because they aid in the prevention of repeat offenses.
Classes cover the range of DWI problems in North Carolina and the nation. They educate students regarding the real life consequences of driving while impaired and taking personal responsibility for those consequences. Classes also discuss the legal system, the implications of being arrested in North Carolina for a DWI, and the responsibilities involved.
Do ADETS Classes Work?
What has the impact of ADETS classes been on drunk driving and alcohol-impaired incidents in our state? In 2012, North Carolina’s stats were as follows:
- Drunk driving fatalities (0.08 BAC or higher): 402 or 31 percent of all total traffic deaths
- Alcohol related crash injuries (0.01 BAC or higher): 8,486
- Alcohol related crashes (0.01 BAC or higher): 1,124
According to madd.org, the drunk driving fatalities for 2013 (0.08 BAC or higher) totaled 371 or 28.8 percent of all total traffic deaths. This is a 2.2 percent drop from 2012. Alcohol related crashes and crash injuries are not yet available.
Do ADETS classes work? Based on the statistics, yes. ADETS are just one of the solutions currently in place in our state. They play an important role in effectively lowering the number of deaths and injuries related to DWI’s in North Carolina.

If there are 4 arrests, are 4 E508 forms/ assessments required? Can one assessment cover 4 forms? Can an assessment be online by zoom or video during covid. If yes, will NC DOT accept them. This is for my bro-n-law. He lives in Burke county, NC

Thank you for your questions. If there are 4 arrests then four E508 forms are required to be submitted to the NC DMV. However, your brother-in-law will only need to do one assessment and one set of classes that will cover all four arrests.
Currently, for the convenience and safety of all of our clients, we are conducting our assessments and classes online. This means that no matter where you are in North Carolina you can join our classes. We have had hundreds of people throughout the state of NC successfully complete their program online through Absolute Advocacy.
